Oswestry School is an independent, co-educational day & boarding school, with an 11‑18 Senior School of c.400 pupils and a 4‑11 Prep School of just over 100 pupils. Located in the ancient town of Oswestry in the county of Shropshire, the school was founded in 1407 and, as such, lays claim to being one of the oldest truly independent schools in the country. It is located in a beautiful corner of Shropshire with easy access to the great outdoors as well as good links to the local town of Shrewsbury and the cities of Chester, Manchester and Birmingham.
DEPUTY HEAD PASTORAL January 2027
Oswestry School is seeking to appoint a Deputy Head Pastoral to join us from January 2027. Combining a long‑established heritage with a progressive outlook, we provide an environment in which both pupils and staff can thrive, and where pastoral care and safeguarding are key priorities. This role would suit an experienced middle leader with the expertise, experience and passion to ensure Oswestry continues to be known for its outstanding pastoral care.
Responsibilities
* Oversee the pastoral flourishing of the school, ensuring each pupil is fully supported, nurtured and developed.
* Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), responsible for safeguarding within the school.
* Lead the safeguarding team of Deputy DSLs and the wider pastoral and boarding team.
* Serve as a member of the School Leadership Team and report directly to the Headmaster.
* Promote the shared goals and purpose of the three key strands of academic, pastoral and co‑curricular.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Experienced middle leader with a passion for pastoral care.
* Right to work in the UK; this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
* Willingness to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
