The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Senior Engineer to join our Consulting Highways team. This is a hybrid position with shared office space in Cardiff, and we welcome applications from candidates across the region.
The Cardiff Highways team has a healthy pipeline of high-profile and diverse project work on the SEWTAPS, SWMWRCES, SWTRA and North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency frameworks, with roles ranging from Project Manager through to Design Manager and exposure to local Clients within Wales.
The Role
Our Lead Senior Civil Engineers play an important part within the Design team and alongside our client, National Highways. As a Lead Senior Civil Engineer, you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of road schemes whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior designers.
Responsibilities include:
* Lead a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
* Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of scheme deliverables that satisfy quality, cost and programme criteria
* Oversee the actions of more junior staff and take responsibility for their actions
* Take responsibility for the commercial success of projects within the portfolio, controlling budgets and managing costs
* Liaise with client and supplier representatives, attend progress meetings and respond to queries
* Contribute to bids and the work winning function
* Drive effective health and safety practices within the team
What you will bring to us:
* Developed experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, likely in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent
* Able to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with standards, working unsupervised and supervising junior staff
* Experience in health, safety and welfare management, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
* Knowledge and experience of design and specification processes with ability to advise others (Design Team Leader for appropriate projects). Ability to check designs to a high standard
* Highly experienced with relevant software and analytical tools, with ability to check work produced by others
* Strong understanding of CDM and risk assessment, with experience in managing hazards and implementing risk mitigation
* Capable of acting as Principal Designer for appropriate projects
* Supervisory and people management skills for a medium sized, locally based single discipline technical team
* Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence is desirable and may be essential on particular contracts
