Research Nurse (B5/B6 Developmental Role)

The closing date is 10 May 2026.

The Research Nurse will support mental health and dementia clinical trials at Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Key duties include participant assessment and monitoring, recruitment, liaising with study partners, and collecting biological samples and data in line with protocols. Clinical skills in phlebotomy, cannulation, and medication administration (oral, SC, IM, IV) are essential. Professional development and leadership training opportunities are available.

Based at Two Bridges in Chertsey, the role involves community visits and Trust-wide meetings.

As a Band 6, the postholder is expected to supervise junior staff, lead on study set‑up, coordinate commercial trials, support audits, and represent the team at internal and external meetings.

Main duties of the job

This role involves delivering high-quality clinical and research care to participants involved in clinical trials. Responsibilities include collecting and processing biological samples, monitoring participants' health, administering investigational medications through various routes, and conducting study visits in clinical and community settings.

The role will support the delivery of our clinical trials by identifying, screening, and enrolling eligible participants while ensuring adherence to protocol, accurate data recording, and prompt reporting of adverse events in line with ICH‑GCP and UK clinical trial regulations.

The position requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team. Effective communication with patients, carers, healthcare professionals, and external partners is essential, alongside active contribution to trial set‑up and management. Ongoing professional development, staff supervision, and participant education are also key components, ensuring safe, ethical, and effective research practice.
