Torbay Council is looking to recruit an experienced events professional into the role of Events Officer working as part of the wider Events Team. The post is initially for a fixed term of six months, and will support the various events that take place on Council land across the Torbay area, as well as the key events that the Council directly manages, or collaborates on, including the upcoming English Riviera Airshow 2026.
The post holder will work with the rest of the events team to deliver transformative outdoor events and shape the strategic direction of the events offer in line with the Council Events Strategy and Destination Management Plan to positively support the English Riviera as a visitor destination, increasing overnights stays year-round, and contributing to the local economy.
Working closely with various teams across the Council, as well as various external organisations, this role will support the delivery of the Bay’s annual events programme and help to develop future thinking. Key skills for this role will be good awareness and knowledge of public safety, good management of events on the ground and excellent organisational skills in the lead up and planning of a portfolio of events.
Working with a wide array of stakeholders the successful candidate will ensure that all events are delivered in accordance with relevant council policies and priorities, oversee budgets as appropriate, meet income generation targets and support the development of the events sector in the area.
This position is for a fixed term of 6 months from the start date.

Skills
Essential:
* Effective communication skills and the ability to communicate well at all levels.
* Ability to manage events from concept to delivery including production of Event Management Plans (EMPs) to the highest standards.
* Ability to prioritise workload and managing personal time to enable productivity.
As this post meets the requirements of the Immigration Act 2016 (part 7), the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
Knowledge
Essential:
* Knowledge of how to make effective on the spot decisions which enables a successful smooth event.
* Knowledge of how to develop and foster effective relationships with various external organisations and individuals with regard to events and activities.
* Demonstrable knowledge of undertaking risk assessments along with continued dynamic risk assessments throughout an event.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
* Demonstrable experience of event management, from conception through to completion.
* Experience of working with casual staff, trainees and volunteers to achieve event aims and objectives.
* Experience of working with external agencies to deliver participation in cultural activities, festivals and events.
