Job Description:
Our client produces over 3 million tonnes of acid and a range of derivatives per annum from 8 manufacturing locations across the globe. This role is located at their manufacturing base in Hull and due to internal promotion, they are looking to hire a Mechanical Engineer.
The Mechanical Engineer provides engineering expertise and assurance in support of safe and reliable operations, growth projects, and new technology development. Responsibilities include:
1. Provide Mechanical Engineering and discipline leadership for 26 sites worldwide with a typical combined gross acid/anhydride margin of over $500M.
2. Offer day-to-day advice and onsite TAR support in areas of mechanical design, specification, repair, maintenance, inspection, and reliability to ensure the safe and reliable operation of company assets globally.
3. Deliver engineering assurance to equipment-specific issues to improve availability at CO suppliers.
4. Provide engineering advice and risk evaluation in response to breakdown or loss of containment, leading independent root cause analysis for complex failures.
5. Establish and maintain contacts with key material suppliers and equipment vendors, and manage external technical support and consultancy services as required.
6. Offer mechanical engineering skills to support major projects, including retrofit and new build opportunities, to generate new value and licensing and proprietary equipment income for the business.
7. Support research activities involving laboratory scale and pilot plant studies, giving mechanical engineering advice.
Level of education & Experience:
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering Science or appropriate engineering discipline.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering in a chemical manufacturing/oil and gas/pharmaceutical, steel, or power environment.
Technical skills:
* Proven track record of delivery and excellence, including the ability to build strong collaborative relationships across organizations and with third parties.
* Experience in equipment specification, selection, and efficient problem resolution for major capital projects, working with engineering contractors and plant engineers.
* Understanding of equipment damage mechanism identification and assessment skills.
* Knowledge of technical practices and industry codes and standards relevant to the Petrochemicals industry.
* Experience of equipment design engineering, fabrication, inspection, maintenance & repair of equipment, including methods of assembly.
* Experience of vendor technical qualification and quality assurance.
* Knowledge of risk-based inspection and maintenance, failure mode effect analysis.
* Ability to advise on destructive and non-destructive testing, analysis, and interpretation.
* Ability to deliver root cause failure investigation skills related to engineering problems in the petrochemical environment.
* Understanding of project processes with experience of major capital projects as an advantage.
* Appreciation of process, materials, and ICE engineering disciplines and experience of working in multidiscipline teams.
* Able to demonstrate systematic management, application of standards, and elimination of defects to improve plant efficiency and reliability.
