About the Role

Staff Tutors are members of the academic staff of the School of Health, Wellbeing and Social Care (HWSC) based in the Faculty of Wellbeing, Education & Language Studies (WELS). They play a vital role in the provision of The Open University’s (OU) supported open learning model of education; contribute to the presentation of modules and qualifications and engage in research and scholarship congruent with School and Faculty strategic priorities.

Staff Tutors represent The Open University on national and local strategic groups, provide academic leadership and line manage Module Tutors and Practice Tutors who provide academic and pastoral support to OU students. The post includes responsibility for working in partnership with employers to support recruitment and selection to professional programmes and for the operational management of practice learning relating to the School’s portfolio of qualifications.

Please note: This is a part-time (22 hours per week), fixed term contract position, for 12 months. The successful candidate will be required to undetake a basic DBS check.


Key Responsibilities

* To act as a Tuition Task Manager (TTM) for a group of Associate Lecturers (ALs), fulfilling all the specified duties associated with this role
* To act as a Line Manager (LM) for a group of ALs, fulfilling all the specified duties associated with this role
* To undertake formal and informal performance reviews and management for allocated Associate Lecturers and Practice Tutors
* To act as a Cluster Manager (CM) for one or more identified modules, fulfilling all the specified duties associated with this role (In a university module, a cluster is a group of related lessons or topics, and a Cluster Manager is the person who helps organise and support these to make sure students get the most out of their learning)
* To act as a Lead Cluster Manager (LCM) for one or more identified modules
* To address academic service requests from internal and external stakeholders which are located outside professional practice programmes (PPPs) but which fall within the individual’s agreed remit
* To respond to requests for additional student support and promote implementation of reasonable adjustments to student learning provision on the modules/programmes within the individual’s agreed remit
* To liaise with internal and external stakeholders in supporting reasonable adjustments for learners with disabilities and/or additional requirements, as required
* To review Tutor Marked Assessment extension requests which do not comply with the University’s assessment policy on those modules within the individual’s agreed remit
