Research Nurse - Research and Development

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Research Nursing team, based at the Lister Hospital.
The role is people focused involving recruiting participants into a wide range of research studies, receiving informed consent, conducting study procedures and the collection of baseline and follow up data in accordance with ICH GCP.

Main duties of the job
Screen & identify patients eligible for clinical trials and maintain detailed knowledge of the protocols for the clinical trials associated with the designated site‑specific groups.
Provide verbal and written information and offer support to patients and carers throughout their involvement in a clinical trial. Assist in the informed consent process and act as a point of contact for patients and carers during their participation.
With appropriate training, take and process clinical samples (e.g., blood samples) for studies, and coordinate tissue sample collection and dispatch to the relevant department or trial centre as appropriate.
Assist in the provision of background information about potential clinical trials to obtain approvals from Research Governance and Local Ethics Committees.
Work in conjunction with research clinicians, nurses, pharmacists and other support staff within the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.
Work at all times in accordance with ICH Good Clinical Practice, EU Directives and the most current guidance relating to Research Governance and Research Ethics in each Trust.
Participate in the informed consent process, complete CRFs, report safety incidents, ensure protocol compliance, and support monitoring and auditing of clinical trials.

Person Specification
Qualification / Training
* Registered Nurse
* Evidence of CPD and maintenance of PDP
* Willingness to undertake training as appropriate for role
Previous Experience
* Substantial experience at Band 5 or above
* Experience of working with patients and families within relevant clinical areas in the NHS environment
* Evidence of research activity
* Experience of running concurrent research studies in a healthcare setting with minimal supervision / clinical trials experience
* Experience related to information retrieval and research application
Skills
* Excellent organisational and time management skills
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work cross‑boundaries integrating with multidisciplinary staff
* Ability to make clinical judgments regarding patient needs where appropriate
* Ability to work autonomously using own initiative, and as a member of a team
* Computer literate with Microsoft Office software (including Word, Excel)
* Report writing and presentation skills
* Extended clinical skills relevant to the role e.g. phlebotomy and cannulation
* Teaching skills
