Offer description

Equans is looking for an Assistant Technical Services Manager (Mechanical) to join our team based at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) in Smethwick on a permanent basis. This is a full‑time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, on‑call allowance and benefits package.


What will you deliver?

* Be the go‑to leader on site, stepping in for the Technical Services Manager when needed and ensuring seamless operations
* Plan and coordinate all preventative maintenance for our buildings, plant, and equipment, partnering closely with the Planning Coordinator and leveraging the Maximo system — all while ensuring compliance with the latest regulations and industry best practices
* Collaborate on supplier and subcontractor negotiations to deliver cost‑effective, high‑quality services aligned with contract SLAs
* Play a key role in managing budget elements, supporting financial control measures tied to departmental budgets, stock management, and contracts
* Lead your team and subcontractors in responding swiftly and efficiently to maintenance requests, ensuring all repairs are completed promptly, carefully, and to the highest standards
* Participate in on‑call rota

Who are you?

* City and Guild or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline
* High level of verbal, written and numeric skills and must be computer literate
* A sound knowledge of standard spreadsheet packages and computerised estates and project management systems
* Must be able to manage people, be self‑motivating, able to work on own initiative, and be able to liaise and delegate effectively with staff operating in a multi‑disciplinary environment
* Able to demonstrate a sound understanding of technical and estates and building issues in the provision of construction, maintenance and FM services
* Good organisational skills and the ability to communicate at all levels
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Experience of Microsoft Office software essential, including Outlook, Word
* A sound knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act, the Construction Design and Management Regulations and other relevant statutory requirements will be required. (Desirable)
* Ability to show understanding of statutory maintenance requirements, legislation, Health Technical Memorandums, Health Building Notes and other technical documentation. (Desirable)

This role includes a DBS Standard check therefore ability to pass is essential.
