Support Worker
Location: Streetly, Sutton Coldfield
Salary: £14.50 - £15.50 per hour
Hours: 24 hours per week
We have a great opportunity to join a happy and established care team as a Support Worker with our Client, enabling him to live independently in his own home and enjoy his hobbies and interests?
The Client
Greg is a 61 year old gentleman who suffered a brain injury in an accident about 8 years ago. Despite this Greg, lives independently in his own home with the help and support of his existing care team.
As a result of his injuries, Greg needs reassurance and prompts in his day-to-day life which includes guidance with decision making, and support with his domestic tasks such as shopping and housework. Greg does not require help with mobility or personal care other than prompts and with the application of cream in those hard-to-reach places. He sometimes suffers with unclear speech which can lead to frustration, and his coordination can be compromised, particularly when fatigued. Greg also has Type 1 diabetes for which he takes daily medication, something the successful candidate will be trained to administer.
Interests and Hobbies
Greg loves to be out and about in the local and wider community and thrives in the company of positive, social people. Greg enjoys going to Headway once a week and also goes rifle shooting on a weekly basis too, He loves to go to the pub for lunch, spending time with friends and family and has a passion for cars and motorbikes. A shared interest would be a bonus, but is not necessary.
Greg has a devoted 4 legged companion and enjoys taking his dog for short walks in the surrounding area.
The Role
We are looking for a new Support Worker to join this fantastic care team who are already providing a high standard of support to Greg. Although experience of this type of role, or of acquired brain injury, is a benefit, it is not a requirement as full training will be given. You will also be required to support Greg in his therapeutic programmes.
We are looking for someone who likes to enjoy life to the full and who will invest their energy in ensuring Greg is able to continue to access and enjoy all his existing interests and who may be able to suggest other activities Greg could enjoy. The successful candidate will be a positive sociable individual, patient and calm and who understands and appreciates the need for privacy and confidentiality when working within a private family home.
You should have clear spoken and written English to enable clear communication with Greg and ideally hold a full UK driving licence for those trips out!
