Role Overview
This role will support the definition and development of solution requirements and designs across a number of bids and projects/products delivering various training and simulation solutions.
Key Interactions
The job‑holder will work closely with all members of the Bid/Product/Project engineering team, especially the SEM, PDA and Solution Architect, and may interface with the customer and end‑user communities.
Key Responsibilities
* Write and decompose system requirements and define the best method for verification.
* Troubleshoot the system design and provide suggestions or solutions.
* Develop conceptual designs and models.
* Define and manage interfaces between solution elements.
* Perform scientific analysis and predictive modelling to measure design outcomes.
* Write technical responses for customers.
* Break down complex problems into smaller portions for simplification and analysis.
* Influence and reach consensus with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders.
* Create, manage and control design documentation (ICDs, TRSs, SSDD) and associated solution baselines.
* Support software, procurement, operations and subcontractors in ensuring the design and development of solution elements meet the needs of the solution.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Experience in engineering on complex systems and solutions.
* A proven track record of success in defining technical solutions and delivering technical proposals for complex systems within typical bid constraints (limited time, budget, resources).
* Ability to analyse customer requirements and identify technical issues and risks, and propose mitigation activities.
* Ability to capture and express solutions/designs through a model‑based engineering approach.
* Clear understanding of system engineering processes including functional baseline management (specification writing, requirements analysis/management, system‑level design, functional partitioning/allocation, interface design/control).
* Effective team player with good verbal communication, report writing and presentation skills.
* Strong organisational and team‑working skills.
* Experience with DOORS and JIRA.
Desirable Skills & Experience
* Training and/or Simulation domain knowledge and experience.
* Excellent customer relationship skills.
* Experience with modelling tools such as Capella and Enterprise Architect.
Essential Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
Special Requirements
* Ability to travel in the UK and internationally in support of bids and demonstrations.
Security Clearance Requirements
Due to the nature of the work at Thales, many roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires Security Clearance (SC). It would be advantageous if currently held, but if not, the successful applicant must undergo, achieve and maintain SC clearance prior to commencing employment. To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last five years. In some circumstances, a minimum of three years' residence over the last five years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
