About Us akt is the UK’s national LGBTQ youth homelessness charity. Founded in 1989, we operates service centres in London, Manchester and Newcastle and provide support across the UK through our Digital Service. Last year, akt worked with over 1150 vulnerable young people. We exist because of a simple but powerful thought that no young person should have to choose between a safe home and being who they are. Today, young LGBTQ people are still at an increased risk of homelessness and are twice as likely to end up hidden homeless than their peers. akt provides support and routes to safe homes so that young people can thrive. The Team This role sits within akt’s new Supported Housing Scheme in Lambeth, which is planned to open in March 2026. This is a two-year funded joint project with Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing Association and Lambeth Council. The role is part of the Services team and is supervised by the Director of Services. Other members of the team include one part time Housing Support Workers and a part-time LGBTQ Inclusion and Development Co-ordinator Job Summary Please note this is temporary, fixed term position until 31st March 2028. Responsible for the opening and then day to day management of the new LGBTQ housing scheme commissioned as part of SHAP (Supported Housing Accommodation Programme) funding as part of Lambeth Young People's Housing Pathway. The accommodation is a LGBTQ supported housing service with six units for young people aged 18-21 years with Monday to Sunday staffing between 9am and 8pm. The service will be delivered as a partnership between akt and Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing Association: akt will deliver the bulk of the support for the young people living at the accommodation. akt will also provide training to professionals and support to LGBTQ people across the rest of the pathway and with frontline council teams, to ensure professionals are working in an LGBTQ informed and inclusive way.
