Role Summary:
To test the quality control and assay of the V8 and UltraCE product lines. Ensuring product is assayed and quality control tested in a timely manner as directed by the appropriate assay and quality control procedures and with reference to the QC Manager.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To perform scientific and associated tasks while following appropriate protocols to assay and quality control products from the V8 and UltraCE product range.
2. To organise the assigned work on a day-to-day basis, being aware of the urgency of products and the time taken for tasks to be undertaken to achieve target turnaround times.
3. To review and maintain V8 and UltraCE specific Assay and QC specifications to ensure they are up to date and fit for purpose.
4. To ensure all EQA scheme data is carried out within the required time frames and the resultant reports are reviewed and stored appropriately.
5. To develop and maintain specialist knowledge of the equipment used within the department with respect to regular maintenance and first-line trouble shooting.
6. To develop, maintain and apply theoretical electrophoresis knowledge to support routine assay, QC, external quality assurance participation and research and development opportunities.
7. To work in accordance with Health and Safety and COSHH guidelines when handling reagents and chemicals used in automated and manual techniques. Complying with all statutory and site safety regulations.
8. To identify shortcomings or detrimental trends to product performance and raise these with the Electrophoresis Divisional Coordinator and track and implement any outcomes of resultant investigations.
9. To maintain the stock of retained products.
10. Participation in cross departmental CA/PA – Non-conformance process meetings.
Key Skills Required:
1. Good laboratory practice.
2. Good Life Science background.
3. Sound knowledge/interest in Electrophoresis.
4. Competent in the use of the Internet and Microsoft Windows programs including Word, Excel Power Point, and other statistical analysis software.
5. Competent mathematician and statistician.
6. Ability to supervise and motivate a team.
7. Good communicator.
8. Excellent time management and organisational skills.
9. Ability to priority plan.
10. Able to communicate well with all personnel within the company.
This vacancy is permanent, full time Monday to Friday (daytime hours) and based at our Gateshead Site.
