Lecturer in Cinematography (Teaching Focus)

Salary: £49,979 per annum pro rata - including London Allowance
This is the expected starting salary for this post. Appointment at a higher point may be made for candidates who demonstrate exceptional skills and experience relevant to the role.

The Department of Media Arts at Royal Holloway, University of London wishes to recruit a lecturer to teach cinematography and camera-based topics on its BA Film, Television, and Digital Production degree, based at its Egham campus. This position is initially offered as a 0.5 FTE fixed term appointment for one year.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our diverse team whose passion for the practice and theory of all aspects of media production drives our focus on industry practices, employability, innovative technologies and techniques. The post offers the successful candidate the prospect of shaping the content and structure of courses while working closely with our student cohort – the next generation of visual storytellers. The department and our support of students and staff from a wide variety of backgrounds is centred on an ethos of inclusion, equity, and collaboration.

The successful candidate will have experience of professional practice as a cinematographer on features, shorts, or promo projects, and bring their knowledge of working with a variety of digital and/or analogue camera and lighting technologies into their teaching. Additional experience of shooting for live streams, web content, or with virtual production, colour grading, or editing equipment is desirable but not essential. The job holder will ideally have teaching experience in cinematography in higher education, and will be supported to develop their teaching practice through appropriate training.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organisational, teamworking, and interpersonal skills, as evidenced by their experience of engaging with students, colleagues, or clients. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to draw on their professional network to enhance this dynamic learning environment and the department’s industry links.

We anticipate that the role holder will be appointed on a Professional Practice academic pathway, enabling them to maintain and develop their industry profile, expertise and professional activities.
