Job Title - AM Shift Manager
Location - Dash Express Plymouth, Saltash Depot, PL12 6LX
Reports to - Operations Manager
Pay - £30,000 to £35,000 per annum
Shift pattern - Tuesday to Saturday. 04:30 shift start time.
Purpose
Dash Express is a leading logistics provider in the South-West, committed to delivering exceptional service and operational excellence. As AM Shift Manager you will be accountable for the successful performance of the AM operation with a focus on accurate and efficient route planning, ensuring that all drivers leave the depot on time and fully prepared to be able to make on-time deliveries.
You'll oversee the endtoend AM workflow - from sortation through to despatch - while fostering a positive, supportive and performancedriven culture within the team.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys operational problemsolving, works confidently under pressure, and takes pride in building a wellrun shift where people communicate clearly and work well together.
Duties & Responsibilities
Route Planning, Sortation & Operational Efficiency
* Lead daily vehicle route planning processes, ensuring all vehicles leave the depot on time and prepared for the day's delivery schedule.
* Oversee the full AM sortation process to ensure consignments are unloaded, scanned, sorted and allocated accurately and efficiently with a structured handover to the PM team.
* Monitor parcel flow and resource allocation to prevent bottlenecks and maintain smooth operational movement.
* Ensure all items are correctly scanned into and out of the depot using HHTs and digital systems.
* Lead daily vehicle readiness checks and ensure all drivers carry our pre-departure vehicle checks.
* Work closely with the Operations Manager to track KPIs such as scan compliance, misroutes, exceptions and ontime despatch.
Despatch & Service Delivery
* Lead daily team briefings communicating priorities and reinforcing standards.
* Resolve issues rapidly to minimise delays (e.g., missing freight, scanning errors, load discrepancies).
* Communicate effectively with drivers before despatch to provide updates, route changes or customerspecific requirements.
* Liaise with customer service and the wider operations team to ensure queries, delays or exceptions are managed professionally.
* Provide hands-on leadership to the warehouse.
People Leadership & Culture
* Lead by example to create a positive, safe and supportive working environment.
* Motivate the team through clear communication, daily briefings and recognition of good performance.
* Support onboarding and training for new starters, ensuring consistent competence across the AM operation.
* Promote a culture of high-performance, accountability, teamwork, and professional pride.
* Address performance issues fairly and constructively, supporting improvement where needed.
* Encourage open communication, problemsolving and continuous improvement.
Compliance, Standards & Safety
* Ensure the team adheres to all Dash Express policies, including H&S, manual handling, and Working Time regulations.
* Maintain a clean, safe and wellorganised depot environment at all times.
* Report defects, hazards, or incidents promptly and ensure corrective actions are taken.
* Ensure all operational paperwork and digital reporting is completed accurately and on time.

Proven experience in shift management or supervision within logistics, transport, or distribution.
The ability to work in a fast-paced, time-critical environment.

Excellent organisational and planning ability.
Knowledge of transport compliance, driver regulations, and health & safety standards.
Proficient in IT systems and handheld technology (route planning, HHT).
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
