Responsibilities

* Assist the registered midwife in the delivery of high quality and person‑centred care.
* Provide fundamental midwifery care.
* Carry out limited clinical observations and undertake a range of activities under direct or indirect supervision by a registered midwife, having been assessed as deemed competent in the activities required.
* Maintain high clinical standards.
* Help maintain a clean and safe ward environment.
* Contribute towards the department and organisation in the provision of a safe and caring environment.
* The post holder may be required to work anywhere within the Trust.


Key Working Relationships

Include all members of the multi‑professional team, including nursing and medical staff, allied health professionals and relevant support workers.


Team Liaison

* Liaises with members of the team within the ward/department to ensure care is delivered to the patient both effectively and efficiently.
* Updates registered staff in a timely manner of any deterioration of the patient’s clinical condition.
* Maintains confidentiality throughout all communication.
* Maintains effective communications between patients, their relatives/carers and the team within the department under the direction of a registered midwife.
* Welcomes patients and their relatives to the ward/department.
* Awareness and understanding of patient‑by‑patient passports around care needs, supporting and demonstrating 1:1/enhanced care supervision using tact and empathy, supporting communication through alternative means i.e. picture boards, whiteboards or other; always providing patient reassurance.
