Leaving Care Specialist (Personal Advisor) Salary: £15.66 per hour (Umbrella) Location: Bradford Client: City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council Contract Type: Temporary Hours: Full time (37 hours per week) Driving: Full UK Driving licence required About the Role As a Leaving Care Specialist (Personal Advisor), you will support young people aged 16–25 who are in or leaving care. The role involves working within legal frameworks and council policies to ensure young people are safeguarded, supported through transitions, and empowered to achieve independence. You will work closely with other professionals, families, and community services to deliver holistic, person-centred support. Key Responsibilities Provide practical, personal, and emotional support to care leavers. Facilitate assessments and ongoing reviews of young people’s needs. Support young people in areas such as health, housing, education, training, employment, and wellbeing. Develop and review Pathway Plans and Personal Action Plans. Advocate for young people and help them develop self-advocacy skills. Work collaboratively with internal and external professionals and agencies. Support young people through key life transitions and crises. Maintain accurate records and write reports using electronic systems (e.g. LCS). Participate in meetings, reviews, and planning sessions. Deliver support through one-to-one work, group sessions, and drop-ins. Promote engagement and participation in service development. Experience & Knowledge Essential: Minimum of 2 years’ continuous experience working with children and young people. Experience supporting young people in a professional or voluntary capacity. Experience working with young parents and in multi-agency settings. Knowledge of adolescent development and issues. Understanding of safeguarding, transitions, and integrated working. Experience with housing, employment, and training issues for young people. Desirable: Experience running group sessions or community-based support. Familiarity with local voluntary and statutory services. Skills & Competencies Essential: Fluent spoken and written English (Advanced threshold). Ability to build trust and communicate effectively with young people and families. Strong assessment, planning, and report-writing skills. Ability to work independently and flexibly, including evenings and weekends. Competence in using electronic case management systems. Understanding of safeguarding, child development, and transitions. Ability to work collaboratively and challenge constructively. Commitment to equality, dignity, and respect in service delivery. Qualifications Essential: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant field. Desirable: Level 4 NVQ or equivalent (e.g. DipSW, Youth & Community Work, Teaching, RGN). Other Requirements Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (or driver). Enhanced DBS check required. Willingness to work in varied settings including homes, community spaces, and unsocial hours.
