Overview
The Pharmacy Department is recruiting a Pharmacist to join the Oncology and Aseptic teams. You will work with Consultants, Specialist Nurses, Non-Medical Prescribers, Pharmacy staff and wider Healthcare teams. The role involves delivering clinical Pharmacy Services to oncology and haematology patients, with a focus on aseptics and medicines management. You will provide high-quality clinical and scientific information to multidisciplinary staff, patients and carers, and mentor junior staff. The post includes a weekly late duty and participation in on-call, weekend and bank holiday rotas.
Main duties and responsibilities
* Act as an authorised pharmacist responsible for supervision of aseptic processes and product approval.
* Support the clinical Pharmacy service to specialist oncology ward areas.
* Act as an Authorised Pharmacist.
* Develop and implement standard operating procedures, quality systems, internal audits and improvements within the Aseptic unit.
* Tutor Pre-Registration Pharmacists and provide multidisciplinary teaching and supervision of junior staff and students.
* Work within clinical pharmacy and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective use of medicines for oncology/haematology patients on inpatient and outpatient settings.
* Contribute to the Quality Management System, including audits, change controls, RCAs, SOPs and trust guidelines.
* Participate in inpatient and outpatient dispensing services and in pharmacy on-call, weekend and bank holiday services.
You will be a non-medical independent prescriber or actively working towards this qualification.
Qualifications and experience
* Essential: Master’s degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent); General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) registration; evidence of foundation-level practice in medicine and surgery; postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent competence.
* Desirable: Additional clinical area competency; Good Clinical Practice certificate; current Basic Life Support.
* Essential: minimum of two years post-registration experience in pharmacy; broad knowledge of pharmacy practice; experience in clinical pharmacy services; ability to influence prescribing practice; ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and under pressure.
* Desirable: Independent non-medical prescriber qualification; experience in hospital pharmacy; experience in aseptics; experience in clinical trials (GCP); electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA).
Knowledge, skills and abilities
* Ability to utilise a variety of pharmacy computer systems and meet service targets.
* Strong communication skills with patients and multidisciplinary teams; ability to present, interpret and explain complex information.
* Good time management, planning and prioritisation; ability to work with minimal supervision and manage clinical workload.
* Commitment to patient safety, clinical governance and continuous professional development; experience in clinical audits and implementation of outcomes.
Other requirements
* UK registration is required. Sponsorship for Skilled Worker visa is possible subject to UKVI eligibility criteria.
* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check applicable due to role requirements.
* Eligibility to work in the UK as per UK Visas and Immigration guidance.
Benefits and additional information
