Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 3 Assistant Technical Officer to join the Cardio-Respiratory department at Mid Cheshire Hospital Trust.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of quality assured cardiology and respiratory diagnostics to support the ongoing development of a community diagnostic centre based at Victoria Infirmary Northwich, presenting an exciting opportunity to work more closely with the primary care setting.

As a member of the Cardio-Respiratory team at Mid Cheshire Hospital, the post holder will have the opportunity to rotate through our Leighton Hospital site, becoming a valuable member of the wider team whilst keeping up a wider skill set.

If full training is required, the successful candidate will be employed into a trainee band 2 role with a view to uplift to a band 3 once all competencies are met.

The service will run 08:00 - 20:00 7 days a week. Hours will be worked on a shift pattern to include weekend and evenings. Part time applicants are welcome to apply but will be expected to participate in evening and weekend duties.


Main duties

We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly and professional Assistant Technical Officer to help support our team in the provision of diagnostic services across Victoria Infirmary Northwich and Leighton Hospital.

This is a full time post however, part-time candidates will be considered. The successful candidate will be asked to work weekends and evenings on a rota system as the service develops.

* Provide high-quality electrocardiography, ambulatory ECG and blood pressure hookup and interpretation.
* Obtain and report high quality spirometry measurements with and without reversibility.
* Set up and download overnight sleep studies and participate in future development of the sleep service.
* Undertake general clerical duties including data entry, appointment amendments, telephone queries, filing and clinic preparation.
* Maintain equipment, calibration and verification of measurements and escalate faults as required.
* Work with the MDT to organise and perform respiratory investigations.

Clinical responsibilities may require rotation and participation in service development as described above.

Job description and responsibilities

* To competently perform and interpret quality assured spirometry with and without reversibility to ARTP standards on adult patients in various clinical settings.
* To competently perform and analyse overnight oximetry and respiratory sleep studies; training is available to develop these skills if required.
* To competently perform and interpret quality assured 12-lead ECGs to SCST standards on adults and paediatric patients in various settings.
* To hook-up and download ambulatory ECG monitoring for 24 hours to 14 days using Spacelabs CF, Sentinel and Novacor systems.
* To perform, download and report ambulatory blood pressure measurements over 24-48 hours using Spacelabs Ontrak and Sentinel software.
* To maintain equipment, calibrate and verify measurements and escalate faults as needed.
* To make judgements within own area of competence and report any problems or contraindications to testing.
* To obtain a brief medical history from patients to ensure assessments are safe and appropriate.
* To liaise with the wider MDT to organise and perform respiratory investigations.


Person Specification

* Essential: Required level of education and experience
* Desirable: NVQ 2 or 3
* Essential: Awareness of confidentiality in accordance with Data Protection Act and guidelines
* Essential: Respect, dignity and compassion for patients and colleagues
* Desirable: Familiar with trust IT systems
* Desirable: SCST certificate in electrocardiology
