Freeths highly rated Nottingham Court of Protection Team is headed by Natasha Molloy. Natasha heads a team of 11, one of the largest in the East Midlands, and is a highly experienced professional deputy who acts for clients who lack capacity to manage their own property and affairs. The Nottingham team is part of the Freeths national Court of Protection team of 24 who work collaboratively across our 13 offices.
The team deals with all types of cases including those involving acquired brain injury, representing both adults and children who lack capacity as a result of personal injury or clinical negligence. Clients also include those with mental health issues, learning difficulties, birth injuries; such as cerebral palsy and elderly clients with dementia.
About the role
To professionally manage a caseload of client matters in accordance with the firm’s standards and the SRA Code of Conduct. To effectively undertake fee earning work reliably and in line with the firm’s risk and compliance procedures. Key Responsibilities
This role would be perfect for 0-3 year PQE solicitor with a positive work ethic. Whilst some Private Client or Court of Protection experience is required, extensive training and development will be provided. The role will involve:
* Working alongside 4 senior lawyers handling Grade A and B Court of Protection work.
* Working on a varied caseload of elderly client and catastrophic injury matters.
* Managing a caseload of professional and lay deputyship matters from application to administration.
* Working on a variety of other applications including statutory wills, gift applications, family care payments, property sale and purchases etc.
* Organising the sale and purchase of properties and adaptations to meet client needs.
* Making appropriate decisions and exercising judgment, in the best interests of the clients
* Understanding and managing client financial budgets.
* Assisting with the preparation of annual OPG accounts.
* Supervising and providing feedback to paralegals and trainees and delegating tasks as needed.
* Demonstrating an understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
* Demonstrating an understanding of the OPG deputy standards
* Participation in marketing activities, whether on a firm wide, departmental or office basis.
* Ensuring good working relationships with external third parties, institutions, and organisations.
* Identifying opportunities for improving case management procedures and contributing to process enhancements.
