The Position
Applications are welcomed for the position of Head of Maths. We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, suitably qualified and inspirational teacher to oversee our Maths curriculum and teach to Common Entrance and Scholarship level in this thriving and vibrant prep school, which enjoys a strong family ethos and first-rate reputation. At Craigclowan we are passionate about childhood. We are a thriving, co-educational independent day school and nursery with a current role of over 220 boys and girls aged three to thirteen. We are fortunate to be ideally located in a prominent and well-connected setting to the south of the Fair City of Perth overlooking this beautiful city, the River Tay and the incredible countryside beyond. As one of the largest prep schools in Scotland, we have excellent specialist teaching facilities for sport, music and the arts and each academic curriculum area. We enjoy an excellent academic record and a busy extra-curricular programme. However, it is our committed and talented staff who really make the difference; the excellent relationship between pupils and specialist staff and the ability of the staff to draw out the very best from the children is fundamental to what we do. pupil to explore, make mistakes, learn and grow, both inside and outside of the classroom.
Key Duties:
* Co-ordinating the Maths syllabuses and schemes of work in Forms 5, 6, 7 and 8 and overseeing Forms 1, 2, 3 and 4 as required.
* Being thoroughly conversant with relevant syllabuses and resources.
* Keeping abreast of current developments in the teaching of Maths and attending any appropriate available INSET.
* Together with other team members where appropriate, planning and preparing schemes of work and lessons relevant to any given stage for which you are responsible.
* Arranging and overseeing assessment of pupils’ progress in Maths and maintaining accurate records of pupils’ results.
* Encouraging the development of Maths within the school by pupils’ participation in activities outside the classroom.
* Liaising with colleagues regarding any relevant purchases relating to the budget.
* To teach Maths up to Common Entrance and Scholarship levels.
* To teach classes in a positive, interesting and enthusiastic manner and employ a variety of teaching methods that are stimulating and relevant for the pupils at any given stage.
* To teach according to the pupils’ educational needs.
* To work closely with the Support for Learning Department, where appropriate.
* To carry out administrative duties required within the school efficiently and effectively.
* To supervise non-teaching areas e.g. corridors, cloakrooms, dining room, playgrounds, Late Prep etc as requested.
* To maintain good order and discipline among pupils throughout the school.
* To report, consult and discuss pupils’ progress with their parents and any other bodies which have functions relating to the care of children and to liaise with parents as required, willingly, politely and honestly.
* To provide oral or written assessments, records and reports on the work of the pupils as required by the school, including the punctual and meaningful correction of pupils’ work with comments as appropriate.
* To participate as necessary in the development of the school curriculum and to contribute constructively to the development of School policy and methodology.
* To take part in the School’s Staff Development Scheme, including Appraisal.
* To participate in In-Service Training and other means to facilitate Continual Professional Development through Professional Review and Development as required by the school’s ‘Professional Update’ programme.
* To build good working relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues – teaching and support staff – in all aspects of school life.
* To participate in the administration and organisation of the school as deemed appropriate by the Head.
* To attend meetings, including staff meetings and school functions, during and outside term times as directed.
* To maintain displays of pupils’ work within the classroom and corridors.
* To attend, and take part in, school and year group assemblies, staff meetings and departmental meetings.
* To be involved in Open Mornings.
* To take part in organising and supervising educational visits.
* To attend Parents’ Evenings for the classes taught.
* To participate in the extracurricular programme within the school as required by the Head.
* To be a Form Tutor within Form 6, 7 or 8. Form Tutor Responsibilities:
* Checking prep diaries.
* Providing pastoral support.
* Monitoring pupils’ attendance.
* Monitoring pupils’ standards of appearance and behaviour.
* Disseminating information between school and home.
* Writing pastoral reports on pupils.
* Collecting and collating pupils’ academic reports.
* Monitoring the academic progress of all pupils in the form.
* Communicating with parents over the child’s personal development through the school’s reporting and Parents Evening system or whenever deemed necessary
Skills and Experience Required - Qualifications
* A relevant degree.
* PGDE in relevant subject (or equivalent).
* Registration with GTCS.

Terms
