The Bodleian Libraries are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Security Team Member to join our in‑house team, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our people, buildings, and collections across the Old Bodleian Library, the Weston Library, and the Radcliffe Camera. You will be part of a dedicated team providing the first point of contact for readers and visitors.
You will monitor and patrol library spaces, check entry credentials, and respond to a range of operational and emergency situations. You will also support the smooth daily operation of our historic and modern sites, including unlocking and locking buildings, conducting bag and locker searches, and maintaining accurate security records. This is a full‑time post, working 36.5 hours per week mainly between 2 pm and 9.15 pm on a three‑week rota, which includes working one weekend in every three. Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a satisfactory Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check because of the safety‑critical nature of responding to emergency situations.
You will be an excellent team player with a professional, customer‑oriented approach and the ability to interact courteously with people at all levels. You will be observant and able to maintain attention to detail, with the stamina to undertake repetitive tasks and spend long periods standing and walking. A good standard of spoken and written English is essential. Ideally, you will also hold a recognised first aid or security qualification and have experience in a security or customer service environment.
