This post presents a new and exciting opportunity at Good Hope Hospital for General Surgeons in Training, aimed at surgical trainees above ST3 level in General Surgery. The position is scheduled to commence in October 2025 on a fixed-term basis until 31st March 2026. The appointed candidate will support a wide range of emergency and elective general surgery services, which may include independent clinics and theatre activity. The successful applicant will join the Colorectal and General Surgery service at Good Hope Hospital, part of University Hospitals Birmingham. This role is particularly suitable for applicants above ST3 seeking to enhance their surgical training skills. The candidate will be provided with a clinical supervisor and will have supervisory and leadership responsibilities over other surgical Resident Doctors. Good communication and interview skills are essential.
The role involves:
1. Managing acute surgical on-call duties under supervision of the on-call consultant.
2. Working independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
3. Demonstrating enthusiasm, independent thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
The on-call service will transition to a 1:9 registrar rota from August 2025, pending approval. The role also includes weekly contributions to elective activities such as outpatient clinics and theatre sessions when not on-call or involved in CEPOD. Supervisory responsibilities over other surgical Resident Doctors are also expected.
