WHAT will my DAY look like?
As a Finance Assistant, you’ll play a key role in supporting the finance team with the day-to-day running of core accounting operations. You’ll work across a wide range of finance functions, from reconciling accounts to processing expenses and supporting monthly reporting cycles. This role is hands-on and requires attention to detail, good organisational skills, whilst you develop a solid understanding of accounting processes. Your daily tasks will include:
Accounts Receivable & Payable
* Monitoring the Debtors Ledger & Creditors Ledger to ensure timely collections & payments.
* Calling customers (debtors) for unpaid invoices.
* Flagging overdue accounts & following up on delays in payments/collections.
* Assisting with Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports by ensuring all income, expenses, assets, and liabilities are accurately recorded.
* Posting journal entries to the nominal ledger to maintain up-to-date financial records.
Invoices & Reconciliation
* Reviewing & processing supplier & pro forma invoices.
* Reconciling supplier statements against recorded invoices.
* Performing credit card reconciliations, checking company credit card statements against internal records for missing/incorrect entries.
* Conducting bank reconciliations to ensure all bank transactions are accounted for and investigating discrepancies.
Expenses & Provisions
* Reviewing & approving employee expense claims & company credit card spend, ensuring they follow internal policies.
* Managing expenses.
* Calculating asset depreciation & setting up provisions for future liabilities as part of month-end routines.
Procurement Support
* Assisting company procurement/purchasing needs & ensuring goods/services are ordered in line with company needs.
* Reviewing & collating requisitions for Finance Manager approval.
Admin & Communication
* Monitoring and responding to emails from the company’s accounts inbox.
* Maintaining organised digital & physical records of financial documentation.
* Minimum of 6 hours per week spent on apprenticeship work and training.
HOW does the Apprenticeship work?
Working towards your Level 2 AAT Qualification, you’ll attend monthly online 1-2-1 meetings (via Teams) with your Tutor to learn modules including general business, understanding your organisation, accounting systems & processes, basic accounting & ethical standards. You will be allocated a minimum of 3 hours per week for apprenticeship work (assignments, research, projects) and at least another 3 hours of training from your employer. All work and training are completed during working hours in the workplace.
The Level 2 AAT includes a mandatory qualification, the Certificate in Accounting, comprising 4 modules/exams: Introduction to Bookkeeping, Principles of Bookkeeping Controls, Principles of Costing, and The Business Environment.
* UK Residency – must have lived in the UK for at least 3 years
* Some office/admin experience
* Communication, team working & customer care skills
* Problem solving, patience, and non-judgemental attitude
