Offer description

Go back Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust

Band 4 Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner

The closing date is 17 May 2026

This exciting role has been developed to support patient care and NHS service delivery. It is for this reason that the training and salary are being supported with public funds. We would ask you to apply to only one Trust and one Higher Education Institution (HEI). Multiple applications can disrupt service delivery and undermine clinical delivery and patient care.

If you are a highly organised and motivated individual with a commitment to the NHS and patient care then we would welcome your application to study for the professional role of Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner. Successful candidates will be trained to deliver Low Intensity Psychological Interventions, the cornerstone of NHS Talking Therapies Services (formerly known as IAPT).

The programme of learning is delivered jointly between Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (BSMHFT) and Aston University. The post holder will be required to attend a minimum of 1 day teaching, undertake 1 day of self‑directed study and provide 3 days of clinical practice per week, offering assessment and low intensity treatment to patients presenting with common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. The postholder will receive appropriate support throughout their training journey.

Main duties of the job

In addition to your application for employment you will be required to complete a PGCertLIPI academic screening form. As part of this screening process you will need to supply an academic reference and award certificates (including transcripts). Please see the timeline for all elements of the process below.

* Qualifications suitable to their level of study

A degree in a relevant subject or equivalent (e.g., Registered Nurses and AHPs).

Graduate Certificate route

2 Advanced Level GCEs (A‑C) or equivalent (e.g., B‑tec, GNVQ, NVQ Level 3 and 4).

* Relevant experience necessary for clinical practice

Significant experience of working with people who have suffered with a mental health problem.

The Timeline

You should submit the following before the 1st June 2026:

* Submit PGCertLIPI academic screening form
* Submit academic award certificates (including transcripts) to bsmhft.pgcertlipi@nhs.net
* Arrange for your referee to submit their academic reference to bsmhft.pgcertlipi@nhs.net
* Attend suitability screening (13th‑16th July 2026)
* Attend in‑person interview

Should you require any further information regarding this vacancy or the application process, please contact Rachel Bradley at rachel.bradley5@nhs.net.
