Role Purpose
To assist in managing and delivering frontline services for roads operations and SBC contracts, including cyclic, reactive, and planned engineering and construction works for the Council, as well as winter maintenance services.
Manage daily operations within the Tweeddale and Eildon West areas, overseeing Eshiels and Galashiels Roads depots and the council's aggregates recycling centre. Plan, programme, and oversee the delivery of road services, ensuring compliance with specifications and budgets.
Ensure high-quality, customer-focused, value-for-money, innovative solutions that respond to complex demands. Maintain effective health & safety processes, ensuring wellbeing through policy and legislation compliance.
Promote equal opportunities and diversity in all operations.
Manage road maintenance activities to meet statutory requirements such as the New Roads and Street Works Act, Chapter 8, Highway Maintenance Code of Practice, and Roads Scotland Act 1984.
Prepare the Roads Operations for winter and emergency responses, including weather forecast analysis and planning, available 7 days a week during winter.
Essential Requirements
* Educated to HNC/HND or SVQ 4 level in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
* Site Manager/Supervisor Safety Training Scheme Certificate, e.g., Managing Safely (CITB).
* Significant experience in operational management within road maintenance or construction, including winter services.
* Current driving license with Category B1 entitlement.
