About the Role
We are seeking two exceptional individuals to join our Board of Trustees, each bringing specialist expertise while sharing general trustee responsibilities for developing our Charity in line with our strategy and ensuring compliance with all legal and governance requirements.
Positions: Finance Trustee and Communications Trustee. Both roles require a commitment of approximately 2 days per month. The Charity currently manages 10‑15 transactions per month, making these volunteer positions manageable within a limited time commitment.
Finance Trustee
Responsibilities
* Lead the development and review of the Charity's financial plan and investment strategy.
* Manage investment funds and deposit accounts, and provide advice to the Board on investment and finance matters.
* Prepare and maintain accounting records, financial reports, and production of annual statements in March following the financial year end (31 December).
* Support the Board in ensuring financial compliance and strategic financial governance.
Qualifications
* Experience leading the financial management of an SME or a division of a medium to large organisation.
* Strong independent judgement, strategic vision, and ability to offer support and challenge to the Board.
* Excellent understanding of financial legislation and governance best practice.
* Commitment to the Charity's mission and willingness to volunteer 2 days per month.
Communications Trustee
Responsibilities
* Provide strategic oversight and guidance to ensure the Charity's communications tell the story of its work and impact in an effective, ethical, and mission‑aligned way.
* Support and advise the Board on the development of campaign strategies to achieve engagement objectives with diverse audiences.
* Understand reputational risks and opportunities, acting as a critical friend to Board colleagues and paid communications staff.
* Contribute to the shaping of clear and persuasive narratives that promote environmental and countryside issues.
Qualifications
* Experience in PR, marketing, or communications at a strategic organisational level.
* Strong communication skills, persuasive writing, and the ability to craft clear narratives.
* Passion for environmental and countryside issues, and a commitment to the Charity’s charitable aims.
* Willingness to volunteer 2 days per month and engage in training, networking, and social events.

CPRE North and East Yorkshire campaigns to protect, enhance and promote the countryside across 6,900 square miles from the River Tees to Goole and from the Yorkshire Dales to the East Yorkshire coast. We work to ensure the right development occurs in the right places, support biodiversity improvement, and champion countryside protection from climate change impacts.
