Job summary
CNWL are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join HMP Bronzefield; the vacancy has arisen as the current post holder is leaving. The team, established in 2004, offers a wide range of specialist health services to over 500 women. The post-holder will have consultant and RC responsibility for service users, be supported by a multidisciplinary team, and report to the Clinical Director.
Main duties
The post-holder will provide direct psychiatrist input for prisoners suffering from mental disorder. The service operates as a traditional Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) within the prison, focusing on crisis response and risk management.
Key responsibilities include:
* Conducting inpatient unit reviews when required.
* Providing psychiatric and medication reviews without carrying a caseload; caseloads are managed by CPNs.
* Reviewing new or ongoing referrals that have already been assessed by the MDT; typical clinic sessions involve four patients.
* Participating in ACCT (self‑harm/suicide prevention) processes.
* Accurate record keeping and use of the Mental Health Act (sections 48/49, 47/49).

CNWL's Health & Justice Service Directorate delivers mental health, substance misuse, sexual health and primary care services to multiple prisons, including HMP Bronzefield, High Down, Downview, Coldingley, Aylesbury, Felltham and Woodhill. We also provide community forensic, liaison, diversion and low‑secure specialist services. The Mental Health Team at Bronzefield works closely with prison staff and other services to promote positive health outcomes, sustainable resettlement and reduced re‑offending.

Job responsibilities
The post-holder will accept that the description of duties is not exhaustive. Duties will be reviewed in line with the post-holder’s experience and the service’s needs.
Clinical duties: Assessment (including risk assessment), treatment, care planning and multi-agency liaison for people with mental health problems in prison. Includes CPA management, mental capacity assessments, planned emergency interventions, and liaison with courts, statutory and non‑statutory agencies.
Clinical governance: Contribution to governance, setting and monitoring standards, participation in audit/QI and service/team evaluation.
General duties: Support care quality through audit, research and participation in Trust‑wide care quality processes. Maintain GMC registration, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval and professional codes of conduct. Participate in business planning, annual appraisal, academic programmes and financial management.

Essential qualifications
* Relevant professional qualification or evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register within six months.
* Approved clinician status or ability to achieve within 3 months.
* Approved under S12 or ability to achieve within 3 months.
* MRCPsych.
Desirable qualifications
* Management and leadership course or qualification.
* Higher degree (MSc, LLM, MD or PhD).
* CCT in forensic psychiatry or other forensic qualification.
