Offer description

Are you passionate about working with young people and do you strive to make a difference?

We have an exciting opportunity for people to apply for casual roles as a Leader in Charge at our Youth Hubs across East Sussex.

What is a Leader in Charge?

As youth workers, we nurture and support the young people we work with so they can learn to make informed choices; we teach empowerment and equality, helping the young people have a voice, build positive relationships, and reach their full potential.

As a Leader in Charge, you will create session plans, oversee the operation and running of the session, record session evaluations, line manage a small team of part-time youth workers, engage young people in the community, offer support, advice, and guidance, as well as handling any safeguarding concerns as a team.

Join us in supporting young people as they navigate the challenges and changes of society and themselves while transitioning from childhood to adulthood.

Training and career progression

Successful applicants will receive a full induction and training to support all aspects of their roles with ongoing support from their manager and colleagues.

Starting as a youth worker can pave the way for opportunities within keywork and social work, should the successful applicant seek contracted employment.

About the sessions

We deliver sessions for young people aged 8 to 19 (up to 25 years for young people with SEN).

* Detached/Outreach is our on-the-street sessions; we visit young people where they are, making sure their voice is heard, providing them with activities, and signposting them to local youth clubs and services.
* Funky Teens- Funky Teens is an SEN-inclusive group for young people with mild to moderate learning needs. It aims to develop their social and life skills.
* Drop in Youth Activity Sessions - Our sessions are open-mixed groups where young people can socialise and develop their life skills through positive activities.
* LGBTQ+- Our LGBTQ+ groups are safe spaces for young people to explore their identity and receive support and advice.
* Juniors - Our Juniors sessions are open-mixed groups where young people can socialise and develop their life skills through fun activities.

Sessions usually run in the afternoon and evening unless specified otherwise.

We are looking for people who have:

* Interpersonal skills with the ability to be sensitive to the needs of young people and can relate to them at a meaningful level.
* Ability to design and deliver activities with and for young people.
Ability to plan and deliver specific projects to engage young people.

In return, we offer:

* Access to wider training.
* A great team to work with.
An opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of young people.

When writing your supporting statement be sure to address how you meet all the criteria in the person specification drawing on any relevant work/life experience, education or personal interests.

Candidates who meet certain criteria are given priority when we shortlist. See our priority status page for details.

Interviews will take place face-to-face within two weeks of the closing date at Heathfield Youth Hub.
