What's involved with this role: Job Title: Repairs Maintenance Surveyor Ref: K&C 5273869 Pay rate: £34 per hour PAYE Role length: Anticipated 1 month DBS requirement: Basic DBS The role: The Repairs Maintenance Surveyor plays a vital role in delivering high-quality housing services by overseeing inspections, managing maintenance and improvement projects, and providing technical advice to ensure safety, cost-effectiveness, and resident satisfaction. Working closely with residents, local services, and the community, the team aims to create a model neighbourhood through responsive repairs and ongoing modernisation efforts. In order to carry out this role, you will be an experienced housing surveyor with a strong background in project environments, regeneration, and stakeholder engagement, holding qualifications such as ONC, CIOB/RICS (ideally chartered), and HNC/degree-level education. You will be skilled in commercial negotiations, performance management, and advising senior leaders, with extensive knowledge of National Housing Federation codes and digital surveying systems. Key responsibilities: Undertake site inspections and ensure compliance with all relevant Health and Safety regulations and guidance, including CDM, Control of Asbestos regulations etc Provide appropriate professional expertise in all aspects of building surveying and asset management, including the assessment of long-term condition and recommending appropriate maintenance strategies Consult with relevant Council departments, external agencies and consultants, as required by legislation or Council policy Make accurate records of all inspections using the department’s information management system Participate in resident involvement events, consultations and work closely with resident representatives to ensure that their views are reflected in specifications and processes Provide advice and make recommendations based on up to date knowledge and analysis / evaluation of information Manage escalated or complex customer issues and repairs issues within the relevant area Contribute to the development of service plans to meet strategic business goals Analyse information / data. Translate outputs into advisory reports / documents / actions as appropriate Work closely with others to support and manage the development and delivery of improvements Manage a portfolio of projects and reviews and lead on specific projects as required Diagnose defects and faults and manage works orders and inspections to ensure the delivery of high-quality housing within Borough Responsible for ensuring that properties meet all necessary standards and legal compliance Be a lead for Contract Management in ensuring that all works programmes are effectively managed and meet programme deadlines Represent in a technical capacity at external forums What the client is looking for: Building ONC, CIOB/RICS, ideally chartered surveyor or equivalent HNC/degree or equivalent Extensive experience of working in a project environment Extensive experience as a housing surveyor Experience of working in a physical, social and economic regeneration setting with a clear understanding of the challenges that presents Experience of negotiating with contractors on behalf of an organisation to achieve desired objectives including driving hard commercial negotiations to ensure that the public purse is protected Either directly or indirectly, achieve team goals and address performance issues using people management procedures and formal performance management procedures where necessary Ability to get buy in and commitment to the service’s vision and priorities from key stakeholders and commitment to taking steps to ensure the involvement of all sectors of the community in all aspects of the services work Political awareness and ability to advise senior elected members on policy choices and develop positive partnerships with elected Members Extensive experience in surveying, National Housing Federation codes, and Personal Digital Assistant systems How to Apply: Quote the Job Title and Reference Number in your application.
