We provide diagnostic assessment services in Respiratory Physiology and therapeutic monitoring for lung disease and sleep disordered breathing. Applicants invited to interview should be prepared to discuss aspects of running a respiratory physiology service, interpretation of full lung function, sleep studies and CPAP data. A 10-minute PowerPoint presentation (8 slides max) on the brief "Next steps in waiting list recovery" may be requested. A short practical assessment may cover FeNO, Spirometry, bronchodilator response, TLCO, static lung volumes, or other related measurements.
Main duties
* Performs respiratory physiological measurements in accordance with ARTP/BTS National Guidelines and Departmental Standards at various Trust locations.
* Trains and supervises department staff to perform basic respiratory physiological measurements according to ARTP/BTS guidelines.
* Maintains equipment, stocks consumables, and keeps accurate records.
* Instructs student nurses, doctors, trainee physiotherapists, pharmacists, junior doctors, staff nurses, GPs and practice nurses in lung function testing.
* Carrying out diagnostic investigations including: spirometry; static lung volumes; gas transfer (CO) by single-breath technique; bronchodilator testing; field exercise tests; ambulatory oxygen assessment; respiratory muscle strength testing; hypoxic inhalation tests; histamine challenges; earlobe blood gas sampling; fractional exhaled nitric oxide testing; sleep-related breathing disorder tests; CPAP trial setups and CPAP review; support for home NIV; and cardio-pulmonary exercise tests.
Qualifications
* Scientific knowledge acquired through formal training to Clinical Physiology BSc or equivalent level; good IT skills.
* Desirable: Recognised ARTP qualification in physiological measurement (associate level or equivalent) or working towards; ARTP CPAP or oximetry portfolio qualification.
* Essential: Minimum 2 years' experience in clinical respiratory physiology.
* Desirable: Experience with non-routine respiratory physiological tests; experience in diagnosis and treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.

Appointment is conditional on satisfactory completion of NHS Employment Checks. All new appointments (except executive) include a 6-month probationary period. The Trust operates a smoke-free environment. The Trust may close vacancies early due to high levels of responses.
