Senior Biomedical Scientist - Coagulation

Applicants are required for the post of Senior Biomedical Scientist in the Haematology laboratory at Hull, as part of the Scarborough, Hull and York Pathology Service (SHYPS).

Basic qualifications: a qualified BMS with an MSc or equivalent, state‑registered with the HCPC, and extensive post‑registration experience in a Haematology Laboratory with evidence of CPD in coagulation.

Closing date: 18 June 2026.


Main duties

* Take delegated responsibility for day‑to‑day operational matters of the coagulation section and deputise for the Chief Biomedical Scientist on technical matters in their absence.
* Supervise, train and develop subordinate staff, including Biomedical Scientists (BMS), Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLA) ensuring proficiency, competence and professional standards.
* Participate fully in the local shift pattern once competent.
* Contribute to the development of the department.


Qualifications

* Registered as a Biomedical Scientist on the HCPC register.
* Biomedical Science (Hons) degree or acceptable equivalent with top‑up and FIBMS equivalent; specialist IBMS portfolio in Haematology or Blood Sciences.
* Completed MSc or IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma in a relevant speciality.


Knowledge and skills

* Extensive experience in laboratory haematology at specialist level (post‑registration).
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
* Experience in Haematology and Coagulation.
* Willingness to undertake specific training if required.
