Job Objectives
Provides pharmacy consulting services with empathy to patients regarding the effective usage of medications and awareness of drug interactions. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcomes services. Responsible for ensuring the proper compounding, dispensation, review, and verification of prescribed medications within regulatory guidelines, company policies, and procedures. Supports the efficient workflow of the pharmacy and assists the pharmacy manager in identifying ways to optimize pharmacy financials, inventory management, and enhance patient experience.
Job Responsibilities/Tasks
Patient Experience
* Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves patient issues in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive patient experience.
* Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and joyful experience, including interpersonal habits that show care (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., curiosity to identify needs, proactive help, service until satisfied, empathy, inclusivity).
* Connects with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services. Supports efforts to enhance patient experience by increasing awareness of healthcare services offered through Walgreens (e.g., patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcomes services), thus promoting a shift from transactional to interpersonal pharmacy roles.
* Participates in and assists with community events as requested by Store Manager, Healthcare Supervisor, District Manager, or Pharmacy Manager.
Operations
* Counsels patients regarding medication usage, side effects, interactions, contraindications, privacy, generics, cost-effective medicines, OTC products, and refers to medical providers as needed.
* Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management.
* Reviews, interprets, and accurately dispenses prescribed medications, especially during high workload periods.
* Ensures pharmacy compliance with regulations, policies, and standards. Assists in establishing procedures for efficient workflow, including role assignment, activity coordination, and team suggestions. Responsible for opening, closing, and shift change duties.
* Ensures use of Good Faith Dispensing policies in accordance with state and federal laws for controlled substances.
* Maintains current knowledge of pharmacy IT systems related to workflow, prescription fulfillment, billing, documentation, training, inventory, and POS systems. Seeks ways to improve productivity.
* Ensures accurate processing of insurance claims, resolves patient issues, follows up with insurers and providers, and participates in third-party audits.
* Follows up with medical providers to clarify prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions, allergies, and suggests alternatives.
* Performs clinical and wellness services such as immunizations, diagnostic testing, and disease management.
* Assists in analyzing performance data related to pharmacy financials, customer service, and inventory management.
* Builds relationships with local healthcare providers and participates in community outreach to promote pharmacy services and growth.
* Supports virtual patient registration, exception resolution, and conducts virtual product reviews following company procedures.

* Assists in staff hiring, training, coaching, and performance monitoring under the guidance of the Pharmacy Manager.

* Maintains current licensure, credentials, and certifications as required by law.
* Stays updated on pharmacy and healthcare developments through journals, publications, and communications. Pursues best practices to enhance performance.

Communications
* Supports pharmacy and store management by communicating relevant health and wellness strategies to staff.

Minimum Qualifications
* BS in Pharmacy or Pharmacist Degree from an accredited institution.
* Current pharmacist licensure in states within the district.
* Experience with prescription dispensing and knowledge of applicable laws.
* Certified Immunizer or willingness to become one within 90 days of hire.
