Job Title: EstimatorLocation: Ipswich, SuffolkCompany Type: Main Contractor - ConstructionSector: Earthworks, Civils & DemolitionSalary: £40,000 - £90,000 (DOE)Role OverviewWe are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Estimator to join our Ipswich-based construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates across a range of projects.Working closely with project managers, commercial teams, suppliers, and subcontractors, the Estimator will play a key role in producing competitive and realistic tenders, identifying risks and opportunities, and supporting the successful delivery of bids.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects from tender stage through to final submissionAnalyse drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, and tender documentationMeasure and take off quantities from drawings and digital platformsObtain and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractorsBuild up rates, preliminaries, and cost plans in line with company standardsIdentify commercial risks, opportunities, and value engineering optionsLiaise with project managers, planners, and commercial teams to ensure buildable and realistic pricingAttend pre-tender meetings, site visits, and tender reviews as requiredEnsure tenders are submitted on time and in line with client requirementsMaintain estimating databases and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processesSkills & Experience RequiredProven experience as an Estimator within a main contractor environmentStrong background in earthworks, civils, and/or demolitionAbility to interpret technical drawings and specificationsExcellent numerical, analytical, and attention-to-detail skillsStrong negotiation and communication skillsProficient in estimating software and Microsoft ExcelAbility to work to tight deadlines and manage multiple tenders simultaneouslyDesirable QualificationsHNC / HND / Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similarMembership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIOB, ICE, RICS)Personal AttributesCommercially aware and solutions-focusedProactive and well-organisedStrong team player with the confidence to challenge and contributeAble to work independently while collaborating closely with project teamsWhat's on OfferCompetitive salary, dependent on experienceCareer progression within a growing main contractorSupportive and collaborative working environmentOpportunity to work on varied and technically interesting projectsHow to ApplyTo apply for this exclusive opportunity, please submit an up-to-date CV by clicking the Apply button, or contact me directly for a confidential discussion.If you have not been contacted by A1 Personnel within two weeks of submitting your application, please assume that your CV has not been shortlisted on this occasion.A1 Personnel is acting as a specialist recruitment consultancy in relation to this vacancy.
