Internal Auditor Salary: £36,655 - £43,123 Location: Birmingham Hybrid (2 days per week working from our central Birmingham office) Contract: Permanent Hours: Full-time About us: The General Dental Council (GDC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating dental professionals in the UK. The internal audit function provides assurances that risks are being managed effectively and are within or working towards the risk appetite thresholds of the council. We apply a risk-based approach to assess and determine whether the GDC is operating effectively and help it to accomplish its objectives, whilst working across all functions of the organisation. About the role: To successfully undertake and deliver a portfolio of Internal Audit assignments and quality review activities across all areas of the GDC as part of the in-house Internal Audit plan. Areas of Responsibility: - Agree audit scope with stakeholders and Internal Audit management, successfully delivering assignments end-to-end. - Lead formal debriefs with audit sponsors, ensuring no surprises in draft reports and producing clear, value-driven recommendations for improvement. - Build and maintain strong relationships with process and risk owners, fostering trust, openness, and confidential communication on ethical and compliance matters. - Collaborate with stakeholders to identify effective risk management strategies and enhance quality across first and second-line activities. Person specification: - An appreciation and understanding of internal controls and the effective monitoring and management of risks, along with quality review activities. - Self-managing and proactive with excellent prioritisation skills, constructive and solutions-focused, working with integrity and objectivity. - Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate productive, highly collaborative and mutually beneficial working relationships with stakeholders at all levels. - Ability to professionally challenge stakeholders to foster a commitment to improving operational efficiencies and identifying potential risks, exhibiting independence and trust.
