We are looking for an experienced Principal Engineer who has spent several years within a consultancy and is now looking to move to the delivery side of the industry.
The role offers the opportunity to build, shape, and lead an engineering function, bridging the gap between design and construction, and influencing how engineering is delivered across energy and infrastructure projects.
You’ll play a pivotal role in establishing best practice, supporting project teams, and acting as the technical authority across multiple schemes.
The Role

Lead and develop an internal engineering capability
*
Act as the technical authority across energy and civil engineering projects
*
Translate design intent into buildable, practical solutions
*
Provide technical leadership to Project Managers, Site Agents and Engineers
*
Review and challenge designs from external consultancies
*
Influence engineering strategy, standards, and procedures
*
Support tendering, early contractor involvement, and pre-construction activities
*
Ensure compliance with technical, safety, and quality standards
About You
This role is ideally suited to someone who:

Has 5+ years’ experience within a civil engineering consultancy
*
Has a strong understanding of design development, temporary and permanent works
*
Is looking to move into a role with greater delivery influence and leadership responsibility
*
Enjoys mentoring and developing engineers
*
Can confidently engage with designers, clients, and site teams
*
Understands the commercial and programme implications of engineering decisions
Key Requirements
*
Civil Engineering background
*
Strong design knowledge (energy / infrastructure experience preferred)
*
Experience reviewing and coordinating designs
*
Ability to work away when required
*
Full UK driving licence
*
Chartered or working towards chartership (desirable, not essential)
