At Hampshire Music Service we teach across all instrumental families and at every level of ability. This includes supporting absolute beginners taking their first musical steps, right through to advanced learners preparing for conservatoire auditions or nurturing music as a lifelong passion.

The Role:
Hampshire Music Service is the lead partner in the Hampshire Music Education Hub, delivering music education to over 10,000 pupils weekly, supported by a team of 180 teachers.
As a Visiting Music Teacher with Hampshire Music Service, you will play a vital role in inspiring, motivating, and enthusing young people in their musical development. Reporting to a Senior Leader and ultimately to the Head of Service, you will support and promote high-quality music-making in schools and across Hampshire’s extensive network of ensembles and choirs. Your teaching will contribute to the delivery of the music curriculum and will be scheduled according to a timetable prepared by the Service. Teaching will be tailored to your strengths and preferences, as discussed at the interview stage, and may include a mix of whole-class and small-group instrumental/vocal lessons.
What you’ll do:
* Teach in schools and colleges as directed on the timetable and in accordance with HMS guidelines
* Maintain and develop effective relationships with the schools on the timetable in order to develop their confidence in the quality of provision, and promoting the highest levels of participation and achievement, leading to securing continued and increased purchase of Hampshire Music Service provision
* Participate in the Hampshire Music Service programme of professional development to maintain a high-level professional knowledge of current thought and practice in music education
* Attend and participate in staff meetings as and when required
* All Teachers will carry out the necessary administration associated with their teaching duties, using directed time in accordance with Standard Teachers’ Pay and Conditions
* Instrumental and vocal teachers will provide an annual written report on the progress of each instrumental and vocal pupil as required by each school on the timetable, aligning with the schools’ own reporting schedule. Class teachers will contribute to assessment, recording and reporting schemes as appropriate to each school on the timetable
* Class teachers will need to plan and prepare medium-term units of work for each class taught. Where possible, the schools’ own scheme of work will be adhered to and contributed to
* Encourage and support the development of all ensemble provision in Hampshire schools, and through Hampshire’s Area and County ensemble network
* Direct or assist with an Area or County ensemble if so required
* Contribute, when required, to area and cluster music events, and to workshops and performing events, to promote the work of HMS
* The postholder will ensure full compliance with Hampshire guidance and regulations in all matters of health and safety, including off-site activities and child protection
What we’re looking for:
* A degree-level qualification
* Qualified teacher status (for whole class curriculum teaching)
* High level performance skills as an instrumentalist or vocalist
* Substantial recent and relevant teaching experience, including successful group teaching
* Up to date knowledge and understanding of pedagogy and developments in music education
* Ability to inspire and enthuse young instrumentalists and vocalists
* Excellent inter-personal skills
* Ability to liaise with teachers, headteachers, parents and governors
* Ability to meet the travel requirements of the post
* Expertise and successful experience in organising, managing and conducting a music ensemble is desirable
