The salary scale has been agreed as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2025/2026 and will be implemented in August 2025, with arrears backdated to 1st April 2025 where applicable.

Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Plumbing and Heating Engineer based at Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport.

You will provide multi-skilled engineering expertise across various mechanical and electrical equipment and fabric, performing complex and/or non-routine maintenance work.

This post will be working days (Monday - Friday 08:00 - 16:00) with a requirement to work shifts as needed by the Health Board.


Main duties of the job

* Understand, receive, and give technical instructions to other maintenance workers, assistants, and contractors.
* Liaise with all levels of staff regarding maintenance tasks to minimize disruption to patient services.
* Coordinate with external suppliers and contractors, handle technical queries, and carry out site inductions.
* Proficiency in Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally encouraged to apply.

Qualifications And Knowledge

Essential criteria

* Completed an accredited Mechanical apprenticeship training course to a minimum level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent, with relevant additional training or experience.
* High knowledge of electrical/mechanical systems and familiarity with related trades and guidance documents.

Desirable criteria

* Evidence of ongoing professional development (CPD).
* JIB Registration.
* Knowledge of Health Technical Memoranda and statutory legislation.


Experience

Essential criteria

* Experience with H&V Systems, LTHW Systems, DHW Systems, BMS maintenance.
* Completion of structured training programs.

Desirable criteria

* Experience working within the NHS.


Skills and Attributes

Essential criteria

* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
* Ability to work independently.
* Full driving license.
* Motivated, enthusiastic, and conscientious.
* Willing to participate in on-call and overtime duties.

Desirable criteria

* Leadership experience.
* Welsh language skills levels 1-5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing.


Other

Essential criteria

* Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.
