Consultant Geriatricians – Band 8c – Strategic AMS Lead across NEL Integrated Care System
Band 8c, Contract 12 months (Fixed Term), Part time – 15 hours per week. Salary £34,256 - £39,098 per annum.

A unique opportunity has arisen for a UK‑registered health and care professional to lead system-wide antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) across Northeast London. This strategic role will champion improvements in governance, prescribing optimisation, and infection prevention, particularly targeting reductions in urinary sources of E. coli bacteraemia. The project is part of the NHS England ICB Antimicrobial Resistance Leadership and Governance Programme 2025/26 and the post will be hosted by BHRUT. You will work across both primary and secondary care, embed sustainable AMS frameworks that deliver measurable impact beyond the NHSE funding period, and influence transformation across the Integrated Care System, aligning stewardship with broader quality and safety agendas.
You must have a clinical background with experience of managing improvement projects and hold a current registration with either the GMC, NMC, or GPhC, and bring substantial leadership experience in AMS and/or IPC. A resilient leadership style, strong communication skills, and a collaborative mindset are essential attributes for this opportunity.

Knowledge, training and experience
* Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level qualification or significant experience of working at a similar level in specialist areas such as microbiology and infectious diseases with experience of surveillance and stewardship.
* Extensive knowledge of specialist areas, acquired through postgraduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master’s level equivalent. In leadership and management.
* Member of a professional body.
* Experience of co‑ordinating projects in complex and challenging environments.
* Skills to provide leadership, vision, strategic thinking coupled with highly developed political skills.
* Experience of setting up and implementing internal processes and procedures.
