Business Development Executive - Field based

Main Purpose

Genmed support the NHS by providing managed services which reduce costs, improve efficiency, and have a positive impact on the delivery of patient care.

Genmed has a consistent track record of winning as evidenced by the exceptional growth of 700% over the last five years. We have over 200 contracts within 40 NHS Trusts across the UK.

This role supports the NHS by leading and evolving Genmeds tender and commercial activity across its Managed Services. As a key contributor to business growth and process improvement, the business development executive will mainly support the generation of new business with a target set. Additional tasks will include full tender support, CRM input, Supplier relationship and general support to the commercial department initiatives.

Working closely with the commercial manager you will act as a point of contact for tender management, strategic business development planning and brand awareness. New business targets will be set, and will be commission based.

Key Accountabilities

Business Development

· To generate new business in line with department target and goals

· Manage and update new business pipelines

· Generate new leads by various methods i.e. calls, visits, emails, supplier meetings

· Visit customer site to support with upselling in current contracts

· To support with the creation of new customer proposals

· Contribute to the design and implementation of new MSC models and commercial service offerings

· Conduct market analysis and gather intelligence to support pipeline development and strategic planning

· Input into messaging strategy for social media and content to enhance brand awareness (e.g., commercial wins, innovations)

· Oversee and monitor CRM system, additionally identifying improvement areas

· Provide clear reporting for monthly commercial meetings and strategic reviews

· Monitor trends in bid outcomes and supplier activity to inform improvements

· Engage internal stakeholders as needed for bid input, new business proposals and supplier discussions in advance

Tenders Overview

· Lead all tender processes from qualification to submission and review

· Assess tender opportunities, propose bid strategies, and make go/no-go recommendations

· Oversee bid quality, consistency, ensuring alignment with commercial goals

· Collaborate and support the department with successful bid submissions

· Maintain and evolve the internal bid library and frameworks register

Supplier Management

· Leading key engagement meetings throughout the year

· Prepare agendas with cross-functional input

· Identify collaborative opportunities and shared goals for future tenders or new service models

· Coordinate follow-ups and agreed actions from supplier meetings

· Review and propose new supplier relationships for collaboration

Skills and Experience

· Strong knowledge and experience of the NHS preferably in a service, equipment, or consumable supply environment

· The ability to negotiate with suppliers

· Experience in public sector tendering

· Strong commercial awareness and supplier management

· Experience of using and improving CRM systems

· High level written and oral communication skills

· Excellent interpersonal skills

· Strong presentational skills

· Strong planning skills

· The ability to work under pressure and to tight timescales

· Numeracy

· Accuracy

· Good time management and organisational skills

· Ability to prioritise and differentiate between important and urgent

· Computer literate with Office 365 experience

People Management

This role has no direct reports

Contacts, Relationships and Staff Interaction

This role requires a large amount of positive and effective interaction at various levels with suppliers, and internal teams. This role is a 'people role' and requires an elevated level of interpersonal skills, whilst ensuring the smooth running of day to day tender activity and development of the commercial function.

Work Environment

This role is field based within the UK and there is an expectation of travel throughout the UK to customers, suppliers and Genmed offices. In addition to the salary on offer, a car allowance is included in the benefits package to compensate for the expectation of travel. The role carries a medium level of authority for decision making. You will be expected to make accurate assessments of any situation, make logical and well thought out decisions and take appropriate actions whilst influencing others.
