1) Exercise of general professional duties
A teacher who is not a principal shall carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require:
* (a) if employed as a teacher in a school under the reasonable direction of the principal;
* (b) if employed by a board on terms under which he/she is not assigned to any one school, under the reasonable direction of that board and of the principal of any school where required to work.
2) Exercise of particular duties
(a) A teacher (not a principal) shall perform, according to directions from the principal, such particular duties as may be reasonably assigned.
(b) Teachers employed under paragraph 1(b) shall perform duties as reasonably directed by the board or principal where they work.
3. Responsibilities
* Planning and preparing courses and lessons.
* Teaching pupils according to their educational needs, including setting and marking work.
* Assessing, recording, and reporting on pupils' development, progress, and attainment.
4. General duties
* Promoting pupils' progress and well-being.
* Providing advice and guidance on educational, social, and career matters.
* Making records and reports on pupils' personal and social needs.
* Communicating with pupils' parents and external bodies.
* Participating in meetings related to these activities.
5. Assessment/Reporting
Contributing to assessments, reports, and references for pupils, ensuring confidentiality where necessary.
6. Staff Development
* Participating in staff development and performance review schemes.
* Reviewing and improving teaching methods and participating in training.
* Advising on course development and assessment methods.
7. Discipline/Health and Safety
* Maintaining good order and discipline, ensuring health and safety.
* Participating in curriculum and administrative meetings.
8. Public Examinations
Preparing pupils for exams, assessing and reporting, and supervising during exams.
9. Management Activities/Administration
* Assisting in staff recruitment and development.
* Managing or coordinating work of other teachers.
* Participating in curriculum, organizational, and pastoral activities.
10. Working Hours
* Available for 195 days per year, with specific hours and duties as specified.
11. Staff Cover
Supervising pupils when teachers are absent, within specified conditions.
Other duties may be assigned as appropriate. The post involves promoting equality and good relations in accordance with Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act (1998).
