Overview

Community Support Worker - Residential - West Auckland. Permanent Reliever, 32 hours per week. $23.50 - $29.10 per hour. Location: Massey, West Auckland.

At Spectrum Care, we provide support for adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities to live great lives. Cartmel house has 6 female residents ranging in ages from 40s–70s with a mixture of intellectual and physical disabilities, including balance issues. Some residents are non-verbal and may have challenging behaviours. Staff provide personal cares (including showering and female hygiene), cooking, shopping, and one-on-one supervision in the community. Residents enjoy puzzles, arts and crafts, watching TV, music, day centres, cinema visits, cafe outings, and walks in parks and on beaches.


Responsibilities

* Provide personal cares (showering, dressing, female hygiene) and support with daily living skills.
* Assist with cooking and shopping to enable residents to live as independently as possible.
* Offer one-on-one supervision during community activities and outings.
* Support residents in day-to-day activities and recreational pursuits (puzzles, arts and crafts, watching TV, listening to music).
* Support safe participation in community activities and outings.


Skills & Experience

* Empathy for the challenges of building an ordinary life while living with a disability.
* Energy to keep up with residents who are active.
* Ability to remain calm and provide calm reassurance in all situations.
* Resilience to help residents maintain safety and boundaries.
* Good at explaining and negotiating with residents, families, and colleagues.
* Effective, supportive communication with family, colleagues, and the person supported.
* Willingness to provide support and motivation with personal cares and daily living skills.
* Excellent, clear, understandable verbal and written English.


The Ideal Candidate Will Have

* Interest in attaining a Community Support Worker Level Three or above qualification (support available).
* Experience supporting people with disabilities, mental health issues, or challenging behaviours is desirable but not required.
* Reliability, commitment, and passion for working with people.
* A full New Zealand driver’s licence.
* Ability to pass a NZ police check.
* Proficiency with computer programs (e.g., Word, Internet, email).


Requirements

If you are a non-resident applying, you must meet INZ Level 3 skill requirements:

* Have worked in the care workforce for 3 years or more, paid at least the care workforce wage rate during that time, or
* A relevant NZQCF qualification at least level 4 for a skill level 3 role, or a diploma for a skill level 2 role.
