Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology (Medical Retina)
Location: Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Galsworthy Road, Kingston upon Thames, KT2 7QB.
Job type: Permanent full‑time. Contract: 10 PAs per week, no on‑call.
Overview
As part of the Royal Eye Unit’s expansion, we are recruiting an innovative and high performing Specialty Doctor to provide independent out‑patient practice specialising in Medical Retina and Emergency sub‑specialties. The role supports multidisciplinary teaching and extended roles for junior trainees and non‑medical teams.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical advice and treatment for Medical Retina and emergency cases.
* Develop the service in accordance with NHS policy.
* Support training and supervise trainees.
* Demonstrate professional excellence and efficient care delivery.
* Actively involve in the Acute Referral Clinic (ARC).
Qualifications
* MRCS or equivalent.
* Full GMC registration.
* Completed 4 years full‑time post‑graduate training (or equivalent flexible basis) with adequate glaucoma experience.
* Evidence of maintaining a CPD portfolio and competence in glaucoma, retinal, cataract and general ophthalmology emergencies.
* Registered with the GMC as a specialist in relevant field (desirable).
Experience & Skills
* Teaching and training of junior doctors and nursing staff.
* Clinical audit experience.
* Research publication in peer‑reviewed journals (desirable).
* Management and leadership within multidisciplinary teams.
* Competent in laser procedures and performing surgeries (desirable).

Additional Information
Salary: £61,542 – £99,216 a year pro rata.
