The Role

The successful candidate will provide high-quality, efficient, and effective support to the Primary Care Psychology Service including: delivering large group and individual psychological interventions for a range of common mild-moderate mental health presentations; assisting with service evaluation and service development, and providing training to colleagues in the wider primary care mental health network.

Additional Information Specific To The Role

The Primary Care Psychology Service is a new and developing service within NHS Lanarkshire aiming to offer evidence based early interventions accessible throughout the region. A main focus of the service is in the delivery of Stress Control courses in community venues throughout Lanarkshire. Stress Control is a six-session psychoeducation course following a CBT model that has a strong evidence base for reducing low mood, anxiety and improving wellbeing. Courses do not require referral or registration, and can accommodate a high volume of attendees due to the didactic nature of the programme.

The post-holder will be responsible for leading on the delivery of Stress Control courses, supported by a co-facilitator (Assistant Psychologist / Primary Care Mental Health Liaison Nurse). A majority of courses are in the evening, and so the post-holder would be expected to deliver up to two evening courses (6pm-8pm) per week at peak times during the year. This will involve significant travel with equipment, and so use of a car would be desirable.

The post-holder will also contribute to our remote (video call) individual intervention service providing psychological assessment, formulation and brief high intensity interventions for a range of common mental health difficulties. They will also assist in the smooth running of the Primary Care Psychology service more generally, and may be involved in supporting other psychology services through direct clinical work.
