This is a substantive NHS consultant surgeon post at the Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust ("Royal Papworth Hospital"). The post-holder must have a proven ability in all aspects of adult cardiac surgery, with a sub-specialty interest in aortovascular surgery and TAVI.
This full-time post will join the existing team of 18 cardiothoracic surgery consultants while supporting education and research as part of Royal Papworth Hospitals' Tripartite Mission.
The post will have a flexible job plan for operating sessions and outpatient clinics. There are regular in-patient ward rounds in the critical care area and on the surgical wards. The post-holder will be required to join the aortovascular team and surgical TAVI team, including attendance at the aortovascular MDT, TAVI MDT, as well as TAVI percutaneous and surgical theatre lists.
The post-holder will be required to join the general cardiac surgery on-call rota for cardiac emergencies. The rota is currently 1 in 5 but is subject to change depending on the configuration of the service, including the development of an aortovascular on-call rota. The on-call consultant cardiac surgeon at Papworth Hospital also provides cover for cardiac trauma at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Addenbrookes Hospital) in Cambridge and occasionally elsewhere in the Eastern Region.
The appointee will be supported and mentored by the existing consultants
