Role Purpose: This role is to lead development for our B&Q and Trade Point native App products. Recently relaunched in 2024 our apps are growing strongly and are increasingly part of our strategy to drive customer value and loyalty. The role includes two squads (including matrixed engineering and design) and one direct report (Product Owner) as well as being part of a cross-departmental team across B&Q/Kingfisher group tasked with growing the app base, trading the channel and driving customer value. This is an exciting role for someone who is experienced in App development and growth who is excited by being part of the early years of defining and developing the App as a product and part of the overall business strategy
What's the job?
Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
Owning the product strategy:
* In collaboration with your team, business stakeholders and group experts define the 2+ years out product vision and strategy for native Apps aligned to the business strategic plan and in concert with other domain areas.
* Adept use of hypothesis driven experimentation to drive value and learnig
* Act as a champion for your plan; bringing stakeholders along with you.
* Develop clear measurable OKRs with your business stakeholders that act as proof points and focus areas for your teams to deliver the product strategy
* Stay close to industry trends and competitor moves to keep your plan/execution at the cutting edge of the market
* Understand your domain area with great clarity and continued curiosity; technology stack, customer behaviour, metrics, qualitative feedback
Driving a product culture:
* Bring 'customer first' and 'speed to value' thinking into roadmap prioritisation
* Act as an agent of change to help drive product led ways of working in our teams and stakeholders, including bringing technology, design and product together to drive speed to value
* Key member of the Product Chapter; adding your expertise to the broader community and supporting others.
* Stay close to our customers using a variety of qualitative and quantative tools.
* Be a champion for industry trends/competitor moves – sharing expertise to challenge internal thinking.
Robust delivery:
* Understanding and driving the flow of work through delivery teams
* Prioritise delivery with clear alignment to product strategy, outcomes and OKRs
* Proactively manage team resources, quality standards, delivery timelines and risks in your domain across B&Q and Group teams
* With the support of the Programme Manager lead complex multi-team delivery.
Team leadership:
* As a leader in our business you'll be an active part of the culture of the business and represent B&Q values and product culture in your team and the wider Tech community.
* Drive high performance and engagement of your team through regular 1 to 1s and quarterly check ins
* Support the development of the individuals in your team through regular conversations, a shared development plan and active coaching.
* Create an inclusive environment, engaging team through open and fair leadership which inspires and supports others
* Coaching of your team and others in product ways of working including design thinking, innovation, making data led decisions, working cross functionally and stakeholder management.
Key Business Relationships:
* B&Q eCommerce, Customer, Trade Point and frontline retail teams
* Kingfisher product and platform teams
* Kingfisher engineering
* Kingfisher centre of excellence (Mobile growth)
* App teams in other Kingfisher banner businesses
* 3rd parties supporting the loyalty and CRM technology stacks
* B&Q Web and App Product teams
What we need:
Required Skills & Experience:
* Native app development in Kotlin Multi Platform
* Experience aggressively growing an app user base
* Experience understanding and driving app metrics
* Exceptional stakeholder communication demonstrating the value of the App product teams and the way apps drive key business metrics
* Experience working in a matrix model
* Strong product leadership including experience with design thinking and data-led decision making
* Line management of product squads
* Be a product thought leader and help to embed a product culture in B&Q
* Comfortable navigating and simplifying ambiguity
