This post offers the opportunity for a committed and ambitious clinician to join the NHS Lanarkshire Medicine for Older Adults department based at University Hospital Wishaw. The candidate will be expected to participate in all aspects of Medicine for Older Adults care, with a particular focus on acute frailty. We are also keen for the successful candidate to develop any subspecialty interest they may have.
Acute Medicine for Older Adults services are provided on all three acute Lanarkshire hospital sites. These include acute frailty assessment and rehabilitation, Hospital at Home, orthogeriatrics (primarily at UHW), and an acute stroke ward delivering stroke care and rehabilitation. Subspecialty work within the department includes:
* Movement disorder service
* Falls clinics
* Interim care beds providing slow‑stream rehabilitation, intermediate care, and hospital‑based complex clinical care
The department is about to establish an acute frailty unit and is at an exciting time as it works with the NHS Lanarkshire Frailty network to improve and deliver frailty services fit for the 21st century.
Centralisation of trauma services occurred five years ago and a review of the trauma service is underway to ensure that the service remains in line with Scottish Hip Fracture Audit targets while recognising the increase in silver trauma and planning accordingly.
Proposals for additional SPA time are encouraged. In addition to the one PA for Non‑DCC/SPA activities, the Board supports applications for additional SPA time from individuals with well‑developed ideas for improving services. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human factors training), medical education, research and development, acting as an appraiser, or other relevant areas. They should discuss proposals with the identified Recruitment Lead and/or Service Manager who will consider the request in line with the successful candidate’s professional and service requirements.
Applicants wishing to work less than full‑time or on a job‑share basis are also encouraged to apply.
