About the role
UCL Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering is seeking a Building Manager to support two complex research environments located in Dagenham East: the Person-Environment-Activity Research Laboratory (PEARL), which investigates how people interact with their surroundings in full-scale multisensory environments, and the Clean Active Ventilation Environments (CAVE), a large environmental chamber for studying how people respond to different ventilation, temperature and humidity conditions.
The Building Manager will oversee the effective day-to-day operation of the Dagenham East facilities, including coordinating and managing building resources, and controlling access to the site. The postholder will maintain asset registers for equipment and ensure maintenance, servicing and statutory testing are scheduled and completed appropriately. It also involves managing external contractors and service providers, ensuring work is carried out safely, effectively and to the required standards. The postholder will also lead on health and safety across the facilities, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, overseeing inductions and risk management processes, and supporting resilience planning and business continuity.
This is an on-site first role (minimum 80% on-site).

About you
You will have experience working at a supervisory or managerial level within building operations, front of house, events or a similar service environment, including leading teams and overseeing both permanent and temporary staff. With a strong understanding of health and safety legislation and operational compliance, you will also have experience managing administrative processes such as risk assessments and departmental procedures. You will be able to plan, prioritise and manage a varied workload, maintaining accuracy while delivering work to agreed timescales.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are key, and you will be able to work collaboratively across different teams and engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders and members of the public. You will also be proactive in identifying potential issues, using sound judgement to implement practical improvements that support effective and responsive service delivery.
