Role Description
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to be involved in Mechanical Development for Innovative Aerospace Solutions. As part of the New Product Introduction Engineering team, you will work on the latest aircraft cabin systems with the world's largest manufacturers using the latest technologies.
The position is on-site and located in Cwmbran, South Wales.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Supports the development of Mechanical components and assemblies in compliance with specified requirements.
* Develops mechanical solutions to Customer Needs and Regulatory Requirements in order to support New Product system designs.
* Generates supporting documentation during the development of the solution in accordance with defined Engineering procedures.
* Develops and tests prototypes to determine technical feasibility.
* Supports relevant Integration and Qualification Activities in ensuring the assigned design element works as part of the broader system.
* Contributes to component selection and definition in the STG Aerospace development tools.
* Coordinates with design teams the development of new design ideas and techniques.
* Follows Design & Development Processes and Procedures and completes relevant checklists during the development of product solutions.
* Follows configuration management processes and identifies solutions where product or process falls short of such requirements.
Key Experience/Skills
Essential
* HND or Degree qualified in Mechanical / Product Design / Manufacturing Engineering or similar.
* 1-2 years' experience operating in a New Product development engineering environment.
* Experience in design & development of injection moulding components and understanding of extrusion, machining, metal fabrication and additive manufacturing technologies.
* Working experience using parametric CAD software to generate 3D models and 2D drawings of electromechanical assemblies and components.
* An understanding of the complete Engineering Development Lifecycle from Requirements definition to Volume manufacturing.
* Strong numerical and verbal ability.
* Excellent presentation skills and advanced user of MS Office tools.
* An eye for detail and a methodical approach to work.
* Flexibility in dealing with changing priorities.
Desirable
* Working experience using SolidWorks 3D modelling software.
* Working experience in 3D-printing technologies.
* Knowledge of compliance to ISO9001 or other regulated industry standard (e.g. AS9100).
* Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DfM) and Design for Assembly (DfA) aspects.
* Experience in aerospace or other regulated industries, including LED lighting development.
