Head of Health and Safety – Construction

BAM UK & Ireland is recruiting a Head of Health and Safety – Construction. As a member of the UK&I HS&W leadership team and a senior leader in BAM Construction (which also includes our FM business), you will provide competent H&S expertise and strategy to help BAM Construction achieve industry‑leading H&S performance. The role is based anywhere in the UK&I and will involve a mixture of working from home, project sites and any UK&I office location.
Responsibilities
* Support industry‑leading H&S performance based on the divisional H&S strategy
* Develop and deliver a Construction H&S strategy
* Work with HR, L&D and the Construction leadership team to ensure persons working in the division are competent in HS&W in line with company requirements
* Provide competent H&S support and advice to the Construction leadership team
* Ensure high levels of HS&W support are provided at all stages of the construction life cycle (work winning, pre‑construction, construction, completion)
* Ensure implementation and embedment of divisional HS&W strategy objectives
* Influence and work with the Construction Leadership Team to ensure they lead and positively engage in H&S
* Create and promote a positive H&S reporting culture
* Lead by example and promote the creation of positive working environments and the ‘Everyone Safe and Well Every Day’ initiative
* Embed divisional HS&W strategy objectives so they become business as usual
* Secure evidence of a highly engaged Construction leadership team in H&S matters
* Achieve Divisional and Segment H&S performance metrics
* Produce high‑quality Construction H&S reports and data
* Maintain high‑quality incident management processes
* Deliver high‑quality H&S communication alerts
* Show evidence of H&S reward and recognition initiatives

What do you bring to the role?
* Experience in a strategic leadership position
* Minimum 10 years’ experience in HS&W
* Experience providing highly technical H&S support to complex infrastructure or construction projects
* Experience in Facilities Management is desirable
* High‑level understanding of root cause analysis
* Strong people‑leadership skills and a history of managing a team of direct reports
* Excellent communication and influencing skills
* A track record of implementing tangible HS&W improvements
* A positive, solution‑based attitude
* Ambition to develop yourself personally and professionally
* Ability to travel across the UK&I when required
