Mechanical Design Engineer
Mechanical Design Engineer • Permanent Position • Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 (DOE) • Location: Coventry • Working days: Monday to Friday
Responsibilities
* Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies from concept through to manufacture
* Produce detailed engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical documentation
* Modify, improve, and optimise existing designs to meet customer and business requirements
* Support product development activities across a range of engineering projects
* Work closely with manufacturing, production, and engineering teams to ensure designs are practical and cost‑effective
* Conduct engineering calculations and technical assessments to validate designs
* Support prototype development, testing, and design verification activities
* Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders throughout the design process
* Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards and specifications
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices
Essential Experience / Skills / Qualifications
* 2-3 years' experience within a Mechanical Design Engineer or similar position
* Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
* Experience creating mechanical designs from concept as well as modifying existing products and assemblies
* Strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances, and manufacturing processes
* CAD design experience, with SolidWorks experience being advantageous but not essential
* Strong problem‑solving skills and a genuine interest in engineering and product development
* Eager to learn, develop, and take ownership of engineering projects
* Excellent communication and organisational skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative engineering team
Desirable Experience
* Experience within the Automotive or Aerospace sectors
* Exposure to FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and/or CAE (Computer‑Aided Engineering) tools
* Knowledge of product testing, validation, and design verification processes
* Understanding of manufacturing and assembly techniques within regulated engineering environments
